Head coach of Enyimba Zachary Baraje believes his players are
finally finding their rhythm and it would only be a matter of time
before they hit fifth gear and ascend to the top of the Glo Premier
League.
After suffering a difficult start to life as manager of Nigeria's
biggest club, crashing ot of the CAF Champions League and losing key
league fixtures, Baraje began to bear the brunt of the fans' frustration
but now, he says, things are brighter as the club's dark days are
behind it.
"Right now, as we speak, there is a lot of improvement in several
areas. The attitude of the players are different and you can get a lot
of positive energy in the team," Baraje told EnyimbaFC.net. "As we spend
more time working with the players and addressing the concerns we have
as a team, the changes are becoming more apparent in our games and they
are finding their rhythm."
"Before now, there was some level of anxiety in the team. Anxiety
that existed not only on the pitch, but off pitch as well. But
recently, the Chairman (Felix Anyansi Agwu) addressed the players
privately and whatever he said to them seems to be working because they
are all relaxed now and in good spirits. Our dark days are over.
"So as we carry on with this change in attitude, we will hit our
peak and there would be more consistency in our results as we fight to
get to the top of the table. You know I see the players look at our
position on the log and it bothers them, just as it bothers me as head
coach so we are all working together to achieve great things."
Baraje went on to admit that there were specific challenges with
the team's attack and defense but said not only have those challenges
been addressed, but that he and the rest of his technical crew are
working on new ways to continue to improve those aspects of the team's
performances.
"Yes," he responded simply when asked if he wished his team scored more of the chances they created.
"You know it's a part of the the challenges in attack I talked
about. Our goal scoring rate has to improve and we are working very hard
on it. But it's more of a psychology issue than physical or tactical
because we actually do create the chances, but to be calm and put the
ball into the net is where the problem lies so it's a part of what we
are addressing."
"In defense, we want to improve on our solidity at the back so we
don't concede late goals away from home. I believe we will get it
right. We are scoring away from home now and that is important. Once we
sort out the defensive frailties, we would be very hard to stop. As
coaches, we are coming up with new ways to fix these specific problems
and I believe we are getting it right."
