Okonta Tasks Boxing Boss On Dvelopment

By Eddie Akalonu Former chairman of the Nigeria Amateur Boxing Federation, NABA, Chief Frank Okonta, commended the leadership style of current president of the federation, General Ken Minima who has ensured that the abandoned boxing. He has also told the federation to work for development of the sport through modernization of facilities at the boxing village in Lagos, as well as ensure year round training for all facets of personnel. The Hostel block in the National stadium, Lagos now completed comprises a gym, the hostel and an office block. The project was abandoned following the death of the man who began it. Okonta, who took over as chairman of the board after the expiration of Ayonote’s in1994, said “This is good news and it is my hope too that National Sports Commission adds to this by equipping the gym with standard training equipments. It is my hope that the facilities would help restore boxing to its old glory. Once more I like to commend General Minima for doing more than in that facility because boxing now has it’s own home Let me task him however task him to ensure that boxers have competitions, good training at all times, coaching and knowledgeable technical crew. Remember that in those days boxing drew more crowd than football. So, General Minima should pay attention to development and not competitions aloneI is my hope that we will be there in no distant future,” he said.
