The Super Falcons booked their place after a 6-0 thumping of debutants Zambia in their Group B clash on Tuesday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek. Striker Desire Oparanozie scored a brace whilst Ngozi Okobi, Osinachi Ohale, Asisat Oshoala and Perpetua Nkwocha also scored one each for the biggest win of the tournament so far. The win gave Nigeria six points over group rivals Ivory Coast beat host Namibia 3-1 in the second game Tuesday although both countries place a joint second on three points while zambia take the rear with no point.
“We are excited to book our ticket. We are happy to have won our two games but it’s not over yet.
“We are not perfect just as every team. You cannot get it right all the time but we hope to get better.”
Nigeria are the most successful team in the history of the championship with six triumphs; 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010, and are on course for a record extending seventh title.
Meanwhile former women football administrator with defunct Ufuoma Babes of Warri, Smarths Ebhodaghe and former Super Falcons coach, Sam Okpodu have both hailed the team for it's outstanding performance in the competition.. Ebhodaghe believes the high scoreline achieved by Nigeria over Ivory Coast and Zambia reminded him of the teams of the past, noting that " it's a sign the team is out to reclaim the cup lost two years editions ago. Speaking in the same manner, Okpodu who guided the team to resounding cup victory in Nigeria in the thietrd edition in 2002 said they girls show all qualities reminiscent of champions once again
