Motorsport F1:

Schumacher showing signs of progress after recognising family, reports say

FORMULA One legend Michael Schumacher is “starting to recognise those closest to him”, another former F1 driver says.
Fellow ex-F1 driver Philippe Streiff said in an interview with Le Parisien newspaper that the seven-time world champion “had yet to recover the power of speech” but had improved since suffering a head injury in a ski accident exactly one year ago.
Streiff said Schumacher’s wife and neurosurgeon had told him that Schumacher now had “very limited” movement but that “long term ... he could hope one day to walk with crutches”.
But Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm disputed the report and said Schumacher faced an ongoing battle to ever regain his speech and movement.
“We need a long time. It’s going to be a long time and a hard fight,” Kehm said.
“He is making progress appropriate to the severity of the situation.
Kehm said Streiff was not a close friend of Schumacher and that his claims were “factually wrong”.
