By Eddie Akalonu
Chief Gabriel Chukwuma has denied reports that he has ceded proprietorship of high flying Nigerian Premier league side, Gabros FC to anyone, saying he is still club chairman and proprietor who decides day to day issues affecting the team. Chukwuma, who was asked to clarify current status of the club regarding conflicting reference to it as Gabros in some quarters and then Ifeanyi Ubah United in others said, “I am still the club chairman and I am the one running the club. There has been no change.” “the change envisaged is that we are out to develop the club as a real model in Nigeria, promote it to be the best the country has ever produced and enhance the club as the ideal club in Nigeria only comparable to those found in Europe and other parts of the world,” he said, adding “the club we are buildingwill be defferent from and a lasting legacy.”
The former Nigeria Football Association 1st vice- chairman (2002 to 2005) however agreed that the club was being repositioned to be one of the best in the country. “We started out as the only club that owns a playing pitch and own hotel facility for camping being part requirements agreed to by stake-holders when football turned professional in the country. Now we want to go further by making Gabros the best run club. We have hired a foreigner as coach and he is working in partnership with Nigerians led by Willy Udube. Results so far since the season started are are coming according to plan. What it means is that players from any part of the world are welcome to play in the club. That is the reason I will confirm reports that we recruited foreign players. Talents are welcome from anywhere so long as they have ability and the will to play,” he added
