CAF and FIFA Referees Fitness Instructor, Assistant Commissioner of
Police, Felix Kigigha landed a severe blow to his own constituency of the men
in black when he revealed that the age cheat syndrome widely suspected in the
age grade players in the country, is also deeply rooted among referees.
He told Vanguard Sports In Owerri that “I think Nigerian referees are over-
aged. Many of them I have found out falsified their ages to remain in business
and that is part of the virus ravaging the personnel and denying football in
the country deriving valuable officiating.
ACP Kigigha, who is in charge of Zone-C of the Imo State Police Command and
himself a retired referee, said “I have noticed that many are over aged working
as CAF and FIFA referees fitness instructor and it demoralizes me because many
fail and do not attain even the minimum standards for fitness which I have also
seen is impacting on performance being also an NFF match commissioner. “So,
when fitness is conducted according to laid down rules and procedures and they
fall short, my report sticks because will not bulge on standards because I also
have my name and reputation of the profession to protect.
Explaining further, he said it is a matter the NFF and NRA have to put
measures in place to sort out before it ruins the game.”
